Starting Your First Online Business – Part 6 – Amazon Research

It is very simple to find a profitable niche using the tools the internet already provides us. Once you determine your niche, you then can make your plans to get your internet business started. Here is a walk through on how to leverage the information from Amazon to see just which niches might be profitable. Please follow along by opening a new tab with Amazon and you will see for yourself just how easy this is to do.

I have opened up Amazon.com and I’m going to click on the ‘Books’ then ‘Books’ heading in the upper left hand corner. The whole reasoning we are going to look for books on Amazon is because if I know that a particular book is selling good offline then it has a good chance of selling online as well. So go ahead and follow along with me here and do that yourself now…

After that, if you’ll scroll down a little bit you’ll see all the categories that Amazons books are listed in. These are the niches that we will be researching. Just as an example to show you how this works I’m going to select ‘Crafts and Hobbies’.

You will see a list below Crafts and Hobbies that breaks down Crafts and Hobbies into smaller sub-niches. Then we’ll just go to the first sub niche that looks like there are a quite a few books in. There are 1,275 books being sold under Beadwork. That sounds promising, go ahead and click on the Beadwork link.

Sometimes it will break those sub-niches down even more but it looks like this is it here. If you’ll scroll down the page a bit paying close attention to the titles of the books, you’ll see that many of the books that are selling have to do with Beadwork and Jewelry Making. In fact a good percentage of those top selling books deal with both. I’ll take this as a good sign because we now have that much more keywords to work with if we decide to go ahead and market to this niche.

Now I’m going to go ahead and click on the top selling book in this niche just to get a better idea of how this book is selling.

Okay so I have clicked on the #1 book in the Beadwork niche entitled “Teach Yourself VISUALLY Jewelry Making and Beading”. Then if you’ll scroll down further to the product details of the book, Amazon will give you even more information about it. According to Amazon, this book is ranked #1,613 out of all the books on Amazon. That’s really high considering the number of books in Amazon. It also shows that there are 23 customer reviews and that tells us that people are passionate about this particular niche.

So what we see is that we might have already found a niche that could possibly make us quite a bit of money. There are enough people that are interested in beading that an eBook in the niche could sell. This is just part one of the research. Now we have to check a few things on ClickBank…which will be in the next article update. So stay tuned and keep searching!

How to Find Authentic But Inexpensive Jewelry

Some people will tell you that finding authentic, inexpensive jewelry is just a pipe dream. They will tell you that if you want authentic, beautiful jewelry, you’re going to have to pay the expected rates to get it. You can find authentic but inexpensive jewelry, but it depends on a few things.

You Have To Know What to Look For

It’s easy to find jewelry that claims to be inexpensive. There are hundreds of online and brick-and-mortar locations that will promise you authentic jewelry at bargain prices. Unfortunately, most of these places are a scam. They’re just going to leave you a few dollars lighter with nothing to show for it but shoddy jewelry. It’s pretty simple. If something looks like it’s too good to be true, then it probably is.

A good way to cut through the fakes is to only look at jewelers who are credible. It’s not a guarantee that a jeweler certified by the American Gem Society is going to be legitimate, and it is possible to find jewelry through non-certified channels (more on that later), but you should at least be wary of any jeweler who lacks credentials.

If you’re new in buying jewelry and you happen to have a friend who knows their stuff, have them around the next time you go shopping. They might be able to give you tips and advice on a particular line of jewelry, such as some brands that you might be interested in.

You Have To Know Where to Look

When it comes to finding inexpensive jewelry that’s also authentic, you have a couple of different avenues to explore. You can try the brick-and-mortar locations in your area, even going so far as to check out the local pawn shops, or you can go the online route. Numerous online jewelry shops exist. Obviously, because you’re buying something you can’t even see with your own eyes, you should be even more cautious when going this route. With the large variety of online retailers, eBay and Amazon are obvious choices.

Keep in mind with eBay that there are no guarantees with the jewelry you might find. Check out the feedback for a seller who catches your eye. That should tell the whole story. One nice feature with eBay is their tutorials on how to tell the difference between real and fake jewelry. Inexpensive, authentic jewelry isn’t a pipe dream, but you should still proceed cautiously.
